PINWHEELS IN THE PARK: A COMMUNITY ART INSTALLATION

Have you ever seen a pinwheel spinning in the breeze? Besides being a playful toy, it also holds a special meaning.

In 2008, the National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse started Pinwheels For Prevention. The pinwheel became a symbol of child abuse prevention, representing joy, peace, and hope – things every child deserves. At Barnstone Art For Kids, we champion this by offering trauma-informed art programs to the community, with a special focus on fostering resilience in children who have experienced childhood trauma.

In 2021, our Executive Director, Sean Halloran, met with Phoenixville Borough Council member Beth Burkley to discuss a public art installation. The pinwheel, an uplifting symbol of childhood, seemed like the perfect choice. Barnstone partnered with local artist Tom Ransom, the Borough's Beautification Committee, and the Streets Team. On October 8, 2021, the first set of 3 pinwheels were unveiled at Reeves' Park!

We install a new set of pinwheels every few months - so be sure to visit the park again soon to spot our next design! Or, follow us on Instagram to stay in the loop.

This installation, and all of our work, is only made possible thanks to support from the community. Learn more about supporting Barnstone today!
